BEML starts production of metro cars for Mumbai

Defence PSU Beml Ltd commenced production of metro cars at its Bangalore facility since last week for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority for its MRS1 Project.

The production of Metro Cars for MMRDA commenced ceremoniously at BEML Bangalore Complex in the presence of DS Mishra, Secretary Housing & Urban Affairs, RA Rajeev, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, Mangu Singh, MD at Delhi Metro, Ajay Seth, MD at Bangalore Metro and a host of senior executives from MMRDA, DMRC and BEML were present.

It may be recalled that BEML had previously bagged order worth Rs. 3015 crore from MMRDA for supply of 378 Metro Cars (63 metro train sets of 6 Cars each) for Mumbai Metro Corridor 2 & 7 against stiff competition. The contract includes spares, design, installation and commissioning of Metro Cars.

The metro train will operate on 25 kv AC traction and is equipped with CCTV surveillance for passenger safety and made of Stainless Steel body with four doors on each side and real-time track monitoring. The cars have a capacity of carrying 300 passengers in each car.
